1.2. Esoteric Sciences

In the East, in the majority of cases, religion enabled spiritual development to wide masses of people from different social backgrounds. The techniques of yoga and meditation have become the most known to us. Roughly, one can say that yoga was primarily used to maintain the physical condition and mediation to maintain the spiritual condition of human organism, although their effects are interwoven. Many years B.C., the East learned about and defined the energies around the body and in the body, and discovered how a person can influence certain energetic conditions. Today, the inhabitants of Europe are discovering aura, chakras, sidhis, mantras, asanas and similar terms, not being aware that these phenomena were known and named in the eastern countries more than five thousand years ago.

For instance, from India, along the littoral and continental ways, through China and Japan, a movement spread to almost all eastern countries. The essence of this and other known movements was in the spiritual values that are still visible today in all structures of the society.

In the Middle Ages, the countries at the European west experienced a different renaissance, the rebirth of the Church dogma, the establishment of reason and science, and systematically focused on different values, particularly material ones: technology, engineering and technical development. They conceived and created an economic development that surpasses all other on Earth. Today, the old continent conquers the world, subordinates nations and cultures and imposes them its principles, thus causing an irreparable damage, as it forces itself into a space where there are no natural conditions for the establishment of its values and where it destroys everything that other nations were building for thousands of years through social development. The reason for this is that they observed the rule that everything that is not Christian is pagan, and that the pagan must be destroyed. All this and many other cases that we cannot treat in this brief description have showed that the West is investing energy in technical development on Earth, and does not care much about the spiritual development of the people.

It would be a mistake to think that there has been no spiritual development in the West. Looking at the social and cultural development of the Egyptians and Greeks, we can see that the spiritual development of the West took place in the same way as in the East. The difference in their development is in the fact that in the West spiritual development was the privilege of individuals, individual layers and structures, like priesthood, secret associations or chosen individuals from higher social layers, while in the East almost everybody participated in it.

One can say that the principle of hermetism is the basis of spiritual development in the West. We cannot define in detail how this development took place because, due to the level of the European civilisation and secrecy of the teachings, the latter were transmitted orally, and because, as a result of the lasting historical violence in Europe, most of the relevant documents, testimonies and instructions were lost or destroyed. Some findings and a partial insight are enabled by the study of the activities of secret associations and their rules preserved until today; however, the latter appear relatively late in the history, only just after the bloody crusades. After the capture or discovery of the documents from the Jerusalem temple, many associations of thinkers more or less strictly developed the teaching and individual teachings of Judaism, e.g. its mystic CABBALAS, however, they have kept this in secrecy because of the Christian persecution which is still going on.

For us, it is important that the spiritual development in the West developed in certain narrow structures and that, as the result, human spirituality remained a great unknown to the other social layers and inhabitants in general. If we transfer this through to the identified genetic programmes, we can find that the otherwise present programmes for understanding and development of spirituality are inactive or fully blocked with the inhabitants in the West. Consequently, the learning, defining, acceptance of education and certain spiritual techniques and thus values of the East are very difficult for them, i.e. us. We simply find hundreds of excuses that this cannot be true, that one cannot believe it, and the like.

In the nineteenth century, Christian philosophers theosophists tried to find a solution for this gap between the East and the West. They organised the Theosophical Society and started to study and teach spiritual sciences regardless of their origin, i.e. regardless of the nationality, religious or political identity of the teachers and the students. They made a visible contribution to the European thought about many teachings and are largely meritorious that the mentality in the West changed and that some people accepted, analysed and used the spiritual disciplines of the East. Theosophists stress that people are beings of light and that our origin is in the light.
